TrashArt in Eressos: creating with light
On July 25, 2025, the European project TrashArt traveled to Eressos, Lesvos, as part of the 4th Eresos Free Beach Festival. The action was part of the local activities implemented by Visit Agiasos as a project partner.
The technique
The workshop brought participants into contact with cyanotype, a historic photographic technique without a camera. By placing leaves, flowers or recycled materials on paper or fabric impregnated with light-sensitive salts and exposing them to sunlight, characteristic blue prints are created.
In the context of TrashArt, the technique was used both as a means of creative expression and as a tool for environmental education: a simple, ecological process that uses natural light and gives new use to materials that would be discarded.
