Museum of Traditional Professions of Agiasos

A special museum is already in its fourth year of operation in the renovated “inn”, the old Guesthouse of the Church of Panagia of Agiasos, characterized as an official historic monument, with a second entrance from the village central market.

The renowned wood carver Dimitris Kamaros with passion, imagination and personal work created a small market taken from the past with traditional professions that take us to the rich handicraft tradition of Agiasos of the last 2 centuries.

In eight ground floor “cells” equipped with old tools, clothes and furniture offered by his fellow villagers and with his own care “brought into life” the barber shop, the “kapistradiko”, the “maragoudiko”, the shoe maker, the tailor – fabric-shop, the knife-shop, textile factory and more.

The “dolls” that represent the old craftsmen in their shops, make a special impression with their faces, expression and movement! The shops are located next to each other and the visitor can see them through the windows of their shop windows and be mentally transported in the time of the 19th and 20th century and relive for a while this period of the past.

According to the testimony of its creator, the aim of the Museum of the old professions of Agiasos is:

“I would like the children to learn it, to come with their schools and see it, it is something that highlights our tradition and history.”

At the same time, such a museum that recalls the old professions in the memory of the people, is an experiential way of consolidating knowledge and has a huge pedagogical value. Also, it can be a pole of attraction for visitors as both locals and foreigners have a strong desire to learn about traditions that now tend to disappear.

In order for this museum to be open to the public at any time, it joined the action of Visit Agiasos “The Talking Tiles” with the subsidy and sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture and the tour is free and autonomous with the use of the locally made smart tiles.
